Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 for PC for $60 for students

Ending today, Microsoft offers students a downloadable version of its Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 for PC for $59.95. (A hard copy is available for an additional charge.) That’s $300 off the lowest price we could find elsewhere and easily the best deal we’ve seen for this software. You must have a valid .edu email address and be able to prove your active status as a student if asked by Microsoft. This suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote, Groove, and InfoPath 2007.

Woot-Off Today (Feb. 15th)

by Bart on Friday, February 15th, 2008

What is woot? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woot.com

Nice technology-oriented one-a-day sales website, and on the rare occasion of a “Woot-Off”, they slash prices even more and sale each item until it sales out before proceeding to the next. I always wind up getting a couple things…

Give up your privacy, get cool loot!

by Bart on Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

vista_ultimate.jpgWant a free copy of Windows Vista Ultimate direct from Microsoft, no piracy required? Don’t care about your privacy? Have I got a deal for you! Microsoft is offering up free copies of Vista Ultimate, Office Ultimate, Money Plus Premium, Student with Encarta Premium and Streets and Trips, all for free. All you’ve gotta do is allow them to track your every move for a few months.

Yes, Microsoft is looking for people to help test its new “Windows Feedback Program,” and isn’t afraid to reel people in with bribes. You’ll have all of your computer usage tracked for three months, and you’ll also need to submit to surveys every two weeks.

I personally don’t WANT Vista, even for free, and more than that, the thought of Microsoft seeing all is a bit worrisome, so I won’t be joining in, but… Maybe you don’t mind.

There’s also nothing in the rules that says you can’t install this on a secondary computer, but you do only get to select one of the mentioned items for this “promotion”. Not bad loot, really.

Dec. 7th: Woot-Off!

by Bart on Friday, December 7th, 2007

wootsiren.jpgThe madness has begun once again at Woot!: It’s a Woot off! In case you’re not familiar with that, a Woot Off is that frenzied time when Woot, that kooky deal-a-day site, sells a succession of occasionally useful items at unusually low prices in rapid succession, until everything is sold out. I’ve already bought something today! Don’t just keep refreshing, use your Woot-Off Checker.

AT&T Broadband for $10 a month

by Bart on Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

AT&T just released a dirt-cheap DSL offer geared for first-time DSL subscribers with a rate of only $10 a month, fiber.jpg including a free $49-value modem.

The telecom giant is offering AT&T Yahoo! High-Speed Internet to only new customers which include users who have not been an AT&T Yahoo High Speed Internet, or Bell South High Speed Internet, subscriber for the past 12 months.

The offer, which requires a one-year contract, will be in place until Dec. 29, 2009, but as the Associated Press noted in a posting on the Wall Street Journal, finding the registration form on AT&T’s Web site may not be easy.

Users will need to click on the button for “Get DSL at a Dial-up Price”, which is under the basic DSL $14.99 heading. From there, users will need to enter their relevant information.

Bart's Deal of the Day

WD Hard Drive

I bought one of these little guys to assist in backing up user files when I do the Infamous Refresh on personal computers.

Goes something like this…

  • Calm frantic user
  • Save anything ending in .doc, .jpg, .mp3 (Using above hard drive)
  • Zap. Zap again for good measure
  • Reinstall legal OS
  • Install a list of apps I deem appropriate for all computers ( I may post my list of favorite software apps at some point, if that’d interest you. Along with the tweaks I make to all computers after I work on them)
  • Return computer
  • Collect loot

Woot Off Today!!

by Bart on Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

resizephp.gifWootWoot is a one deal a day website that sells one item a day, starting at 12:00am CST. This item is usually sold at a significant discount in comparison to any other place on the net, yet there is a limited quantity and the item is only sold for a max of 24 hours.

Woot!Off – A Woot!Off is a special event on the Woot website where a multitude of items are sold one after another. Once one item is sold out another item goes up for sale. This leads to buying frenzies if the item is desirable, and Woot Killers if the item is not. This event lasts around 1-2 days in lenght.

Woot Killer – A Woot Killer, or Woot!Off Killer is an item that does not sell quickly during a Woot!Off thus ‘killing’ the Woot!Off and slowing down the rate of new items significantly. In my own personal opinion any item that takes longer than 1.5 hours to sell out is a Woot Killer.
